چکیده

a t e M d f t m i n m d s a w ( T In 1794, Johan Gadolin, a Finnish scientist, isolated a new rare earth metal from a black, heavy mineral found at a quarry on an island near Stockholm. Originally named ytterbia, in honor of the nearby village, the substance soon acquired the name gadolinite in honor of Johan, and subsequently gadolinium. Gadolin’s surname, the Hebrew word for “great,” was chosen from the Bible by his grandfather, a Lutheran minister (1). Although the paramagnetic properties of gadolinium have proven it to be a “great” discovery for biomedical imaging, free gadolinium is highly toxic

2015 Update on Acute Adverse Reactions to Gadolinium based Contrast Agents in Cardiovascular MR. Large Multi-National and Multi-Ethnical Population Experience With 37788 Patients From the EuroCMR Registry

OBJECTIVES Specifically we aim to demonstrate that the results of our earlier safety data hold true in this much larger multi-national and multi-ethnical population. BACKGROUND We sought to re-evaluate the frequency, manifestations, and severity of acute adverse reactions associated with administration of several gadolinium- based contrast agents during routine CMR on a European level. METH...

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance predictors of clinical outcome in patients with suspected acute myocarditis

BACKGROUND The natural history of acute myocarditis (AM) remains highly variable and predictors of outcome are largely unknown. The objectives were to determine the potential value of various cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) parameters for the prediction of adverse long-term outcome in patients presenting with suspected AM. METHODS In a single-centre longitudinal prospective study, 203...

Immediate Adverse Reactions to Gadolinium-Based MR Contrast Media: A Retrospective Analysis on 10,608 Examinations

Background and Purpose. Contrast media (CM) for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may determine the development of acute adverse reactions. Objective was to retrospectively assess the frequency and severity of adverse reactions associated with gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) injection in patients who underwent MRI. Material and Methods. At our center 10608 MRI examinations with CM were ...

Extracellular gadolinium-based contrast media: an overview.

Increasing use is made of extracellular MRI contrast agents that alter the image contrast following intravenous administration; they predominantly shorten the T1 relaxation time of tissues. The degree and location of these changes provide substantial diagnostic information. However gadolinium-based contrast agents (Gd-CA) are not inert drugs. They may cause acute non-renal adverse reactions (e....

Acute One-Stop Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Differential Diagnosis in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome and Unobstructed Coronary Arteries

OBJECTIVE We aimed to evaluate the contributions of acute one-stop cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging to the differential diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and unobstructed coronary arteries. SUBJECTS AND METHODS In this study, 32 consecutive patients who presented with ACS and unobstructed coronary arteries on angiography were enrolled between January 2010 and December ...
